Planning is an art form of preparation and flexibility. One of the greatest assets of my left brain is its ability to sequence and structure. There is a part of me that heavily relies on this ability in my daily life. However, there are bonuses to the right brain organic techniques, as well. I intend on exploring how the right brain gives support to planning, how the left brain gives a different kind of support to planning and how the two hemispheres of the brain can work together to enhance your planning abilities.
The left hemisphere of the brain is identified as the linear side of the brain. Its responsibilities include: order, sequence, organization, structure, all things that require being orderly. This side of the brain has been used historically to set the standards for various institutions within our society: public school system, military, government, etc. It has it place in helpfulness, but it is supported by the usage of only one side of the brain.
The other side of the brain is the right hemisphere. It is identified as the creative side of the brain. It responsibilities include: intuition, artistic creations, visual, focuses on patterns, processes ideas simultaneously, free associations. This side of the brain has been historically linked to creative pursuits of inventions, painting, storytelling and writing, in short, all things that are created from out of the imagination.
For some individuals, only one side of the brain is used primarily. For others, only one side of the brain is used at a time. Still for others, the entire brain is used at the same time. This ability of using both sides of the brain at the same time is called whole brain integration. Whole brain integration is the usage of the entire power of the brain. It provides access to all resources of the brain immediately. If you use both sides for planning, you have tapped into the best of both worlds of linear and creative. Here is a short list of the benefits that you would be capable of: being structured and flexible for the unexpected, being creative and able to organize projects, being intuitive and analytical, make logical deductions and lateral connections, ability to identify how something is being said and listening to what is being said.
The brain power that you possess is present to make you an expert planner. How can you benefit from being linear in your personal and professional lives? How can you benefit from being creative in your personal and professional lives? Select the aspects that you feel benefit you from each side of the brain. Put them to use for your benefit. . As the
saying goes, “the person who fails to plan, plans to fail.” You can divide your plans into any topic you select. In an example:
· Plan for Home: Weekly cleaning and organizing of the kitchen, laundry, bedrooms, family room, etc.
· Plan for Business: Weekly organization of projects: human resource, marketing, management, public relations, etc.
· Plan for Vacation: Annual vacation for your family will include: booking a location, budget, packing, transportation, site seeing, etc.
We stand on a new threshold of not only a new year, but a new 12 year cycle. It is so exciting! Take full inventory and assessment of your life? Identify what you will keep and let go of. This is an opportunity to let go of what is not uplifting you in life and make space for a healthy replacement. Be honest with yourself in the privacy of your own thoughts and feelings. If you notice patterns that have been harmful to you, what will your response be? If you dream of, pray for another way of living, another life…now is the time to seize your happiness. What will you plan to make your year and next 12 years productive and prosperous? You are the only one who can change your life and experience into happiness. You deserve a joyous life!
